DMG Supports National Deer Health Survey

Members of Strathtay DMG will be assisting a national project this Autumn by collecting samples from deer culled as part of routine management to help inform a survey on the Health of Deer in Scotland.

Scottish Deer Health Survey 2017 – 18

 Moredun, in partnership with Edinburgh University and the deer sector in Scotland, is undertaking a deer health project jointly funded by the Scottish Government and Food Standards Scotland

Moredun is the research Institute that conducts world-class scientific research to improve animal health and welfare through the prevention and control of infectious diseases of livestock.

The initiative was launched at the ADMG meeting at Glenfinnan earlier in August. Its objective is to assess the prevalence of STEC E. coli O157, Cryptosporidium and Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in the Scottish deer population, all species, upland and lowland.
